Why Awl or Nothing?

Back In 2020, the Pandemic hit Toronto, bringing with it lockdown & stay-at-home emergency orders. Maegan McWade, from Shoppe and Tailor, was forced to shutter the doors of her well-known Toronto tailoring shop. At the same time, the entertainment industry was hit hard when Theatres went dark & Chanti Laliberte’s work as a wardrobe craftsperson disappeared, with no idea what the future would hold.

Two makers, both alike in tenacity and drive to survive, found themselves wondering “where do we fit in, now, in this strange new world?” and “How can i continue to thrive as a creative craftsperson outside of the realm of the familiar?”. Important questions, along with “how do we create art for a living while maintaining wellbeing?”

Awl or Nothing Creative Inc was born out of the belief that creative textile work & maker skills are transferrable, not bound by a specific industry. We work with Costume & Set Designers, Fashion Designers, Artists, Creative Marketing teams, other fabrication-service businesses, entertainment companies, and our neighbours. Our team can handle projects on any scale, miniature to massive, professional and passion-driven.
